Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy

TPLO aims to neutralise this force by levelling the top of the tibia (tibial plateau) so that on weightbearing it is perpendicular to the straight patella tendon (under tension during load bearing). Vector mathematic dictates that this neutralises cranial tibial thrust and hence stabilises the cruciate deficient stifle.

The top of the tibia is cut by a special bi-radial saw then rotated a pre measured distance related to the TPLO saw radius. The proximal tibia is temporarily stabilised then a TPLO plate is placed to hold the proximal tibia in position until the bone can heal
